For The Orangutans
The orangutan found its way into my poetry through a small encounter at Dublin Zoo and has remained, in one form or another, within the landscape of my work ever since. Beyond the poem, however, is the living animal and the increasingly fragile forest it calls home. For that reason, I am pleased to use this small corner of the website to draw attention to the work of the Orangutan Foundation, which protects orangutans and their rainforest habitat in Indonesian Borneo. If the poem, the music or the images have made you pause for a moment with these extraordinary animals, perhaps you might pause a little longer for the real ones.
