Beginning in the remembered world of Riversdale, the collection gradually moves outward into a wider and increasingly unpredictable landscape. Across both volumes, memory, humour and psychological surrealism intermingle, allowing lived experience to reappear through the strange, selective and sometimes absurd logic of remembering — where memory moves differently on the page.

Riversdale: Ireland — 10 Sonic Poems, Vol. 1 is the first collection of Irish Sonic Poetry by Alistair Sherwood — ten original poems brought together through voice, melody, folk instrumentation and atmospheric sound.

Rooted in Irish storytelling, Celtic folk and contemporary poetry, Riversdale moves through childhood memory, landscape, nature, the animal world and the psychological surrealism of remembered experience. Humour and melancholy coexist with the strange logic of memory, where an apparently ordinary encounter can become philosophical, absurd or unexpectedly profound.

Neither a conventional folk album nor spoken-word poetry, Riversdale explores the territory between sung poetry, narrative folk music and literary storytelling. Its world is recognisably Irish, yet deliberately unstable: rivers remember, animals observe, childhood objects acquire new meanings, and the boundary between lived experience and imagination is allowed to shift.

Riversdale is an invitation to step briefly outside the literal world and enter another — one shaped by memory, nature, humour and the peculiar ways in which we reconstruct the past.

Saltlight

Alistair Sherwood

A psychologically impressionistic poem in which memory operates through fragments, sensory detail and surreal association. Beneath its observational humour lies a quieter emotional landscape, where childhood experience is reconstructed through the strange, selective logic of remembering.

American Parcel

Alistair Sherwood

In cart Not available Out of stock

A reflective poem about the unreliable ownership of memory, where childhood recollection is assembled from colour, objects and fragments of experience. Beneath its humour and nostalgia lies a quieter uncertainty: whether the memories we carry belong entirely to us, or have been subtly rewritten by time.

The Grammar of Defiance

Alistair Sherwood

A poem about the tension between imposed order and an imagination that refuses to conform. What begins in the rigid world of rules and correction becomes, through memory, an exploration of how language can fracture its boundaries and discover freedom in the very act of breaking them.

Orangutang

Alistair Sherwood

A comic, perceptive poem about projection, recognition and the uneasy boundary between observer and observed. Through mimicry and absurd humour, a childhood encounter becomes a small reversal of perspective, in which the human gaze unexpectedly finds itself looking back.

Moll

Alistair Sherwood

A darkly comic poem in which childhood certainty collides with the evasive and often inexplicable world of adults. Through eccentric characters, suspicion and absurd humour, a simple disappearance becomes an exploration of how imagination fills the spaces where truth refuses to settle.

Free Eggs

Alistair Sherwood

A quietly surreal poem where the ordinary world appears to possess a consciousness of its own. Through heightened observation, humour and inherited wisdom, animals, landscape and objects seem to know slightly more than the people passing among them — suggesting that even the smallest gifts may carry meanings understood only much later.
